Polished concrete is the process of grinding and honing a concrete surface with planetary concrete grinders using diamond impregnated tooling. This process can be accomplished by either wet grinding which requires the floor to be flooded with water or dry grinding with large vacuum systems attached to the grinders. Starting with 30/40 grit metal bond diamond tooling to cut the floor and expose the desired amount of aggregate. Then moving to 60/80 and 120 grit metal bond diamonds to hone and remove the aggressive scratches. Typically a water based Lithium, Sodium, or Potassium hardener also known as densifier is applied after these steps, densifiers are used to fill in the pours of the concrete which have been exposed by the removal of the top layer of concrete. Densifiers harden the concrete surface, to insure the concrete surface does not loose its shine and serviceability. After the application of densifier, 50 and 100 grit resin pads are used to remove the last of the scratches caused by the metal steps and prepare the concrete for the polishing steps. Polishing steps consist of 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 3,000 grit resin pads. After the desired polishing step is reached a concrete sealer or guard is then applied to protect the surface of the concrete from contaminants and staining
